Dr. Abhay Agrawal
He carries a wise head on young shoulders. That, in short, sums up the life and times of Dr. Abhay Jugal Agrawal, who at a very early age has won attachment to the Asian Heart Institute and Research Centre, Bandra, and the Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education, Mahim, both well known in Mumbai.
After graduating from Karnataka University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, he did his Masters from L.T. Medical College, Mumbai. He obtained a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery, Bordeaux, France, in 2000, and returned home to earn a Diploma in Hospital Administration at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, in 2001.
Dr. Abhay received specialised training in advanced laparoscopic surgery from experts both in Bordeaux as well as in Bombay. He has attended several workshops on the subject in India and abroad, under such well-known names as Prof. A. Cuschieri (U.K.), Prof. Jacques Perissat, Dr. Jean - Louis Dulucq (both France) and Prof. Zoltan Szabo (U.S.A.) and, of course, his illustrious father, Dr. J.B. Agrawal. He is now super specializing in Bariatric Surgery (Weight loss Surgery) and has done pioneering work in the field of Bariatrics in India.
He has published papers in several national and international publications and has participated as Speaker/Panelist/Delegate at a large number of seminars, workshops and conferences.
Dr. Abhay is the Lead Medical Auditor for the ISO9001:2000 Certification body “RINA” of Italy, and is a member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), the Indian Association of Gastro Endo-Surgeons (IAGES), the Obesity Surgeons Society of India (OSSI) and so on.
